Senior Lighting Designer

Key Responsibilities:
•  Design and Project Management:
o  Lead the development of lighting design concepts that align with the client’s brief, budget, and aesthetic vision.
o  Create detailed lighting plans, specifications, and schedules, including fixture selection and technical details.
o  Oversee projects from the initial concept phase through to implementation, ensuring designs are executed to a high standard.
o  Conduct lighting calculations and photometric analyses to achieve optimal performance and energy efficiency.
o  Manage project costs, reviewing and adjusting designs to meet budget constraints.

•  Collaboration and Client Relations:
o  Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, architects, interior designers, and other project stakeholders.
o  Prepare and deliver compelling presentations to explain design concepts to clients and design teams.
o  Attend and lead client and design team meetings, which may involve national or international travel.
o  Perform site visits during construction to evaluate progress, direct the aiming of lights, and supervise lighting controls programming.

•  Mentorship and Leadership:
o  Direct and review the work of junior lighting designers and interns.
o  Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff, contributing to the development of the design team.
o  Delegate tasks and closely monitor work to ensure high-quality output.

•  Technical and Administrative Tasks:
o  Review construction-phase submittals and respond to questions from contractors.
o  Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and sustainable practices.
o  Liaise with manufacturers to specify fixtures and negotiate pricing.
o  Identify new business opportunities and maintain relationships with key contacts.

Qualifications and Skills:
•  Education: 
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Architectural or Theatrical Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.

•  Experience: 
5 years of experience in architectural lighting design.

•  Technical Proficiency:
o  Expertise in lighting design software such as DIALux, AGI, or similar programs.
o  Proficiency in drafting and 3D modeling software like AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or Rhino.
o  Advanced knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
o  Strong understanding of lighting terminology, technology, and control systems.

•  Soft Skills:
o  Excellent design sensibility and attention to detail.
o  Strong communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
o  Exceptional organizational and project management abilities.
o  A collaborative and leadership-oriented mindset.
o  Ability to work autonomously and manage competing demands.
