Website Nulty Lighting Design Consultants

We are looking for a Lighting Design Director (DD) to join our Bangkok office. Applicants must have a

minimum of 7 years’ experience in an independent lighting design studio.

The DD is primarily tasked with overseeing the technical delivery of every project including

documentation and implementation associated with each design.

The DD will report to the Bangkok Managing Director (MD) in the day-to-day running of the studio

and its projects. They will also report to the Founder and Creative Director and will be responsible for

delivering consistency with all studios in accordance with our brand guidelines and philosophy.

The DD is responsible for reviewing and assigning the resourcing of each project so will require a full

understanding of the design and commercial status of each project.

They will be responsible for quality control; reviewing, critiquing, directing and communicating all

technical output and documentation; demonstrating expertise in all aspects of the process /

industry, ensuring we continually produce outstanding work: an eye for detail and quality is therefore

essential.

The DD will also keep up-to-date with all relevant lighting legislation, guidance and best practice and

will openly share knowledge with the wider design team. In the role, they will help nurture the

practice designers, influencing and steering design philosophy and assisting with professional

development.

The DD will have a philosophy that is fully aligned with our aspirations, direction and business

objectives and they will be fully knowledgeable of our Brand Guidelines, Vision and Mission

statements.

Representing the practice at client / project meetings the DD is expected to present themselves in a

professional, cultured and articulate manner always. They must ensure that they develop and

maintain the perception and image of the practice with prospective and existing clients / teams and

build and uphold excellent working relationships.

The DD’s role within the practice will be high profile with a ‘voice’ throughout the wider lighting

industry. To enhance credibility, they must also continue their own professional development and

demonstrate exemplary professionalism, as they will be entrusted with maintaining a position of

respect both within the practice and industry.

The DD will be expected to undertake several non-project related duties. These will include business

development, seeking new clients and opportunities, attending networking events and promoting

the practice to existing and potential / prospective clients, marketing, PR and some administrative

tasks.

The DD will be party to confidential information and will demonstrate a degree of discretion and a

full, commercial understanding of the business including HR, Finance and Business Development.

Person Specification

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in an independent architectural lighting design practice.

• Proven track record delivering complex, high-end projects across multiple sectors.

• Strong technical expertise including documentation, detailing and on-site coordination.

• Demonstrable experience leading teams and mentoring designers.

• Commercial awareness and experience managing project budgets and resourcing.

• Exceptional eye for detail and commitment to design quality.

• Confident, articulate and culturally aware client-facing professional.

• Strong understanding of lighting standards, legislation and sustainability principles.
