Job Summary
The Junior Lighting Designer will be part of an expanding and specialist Hospitality team within greymatters. The role will work closely with a team of motivated and hospitality experienced design professionals in our Bangkok Studio. Working as part of a collaborative design team you will interpret Client and Operator Briefs in creating innovative and impactful lighting design solutions across a variety of exciting projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with lighting designers and project teams to develop creative lighting concepts.
- Create lighting layouts, plans, and detailed drawings using software such as AutoCAD, Revit.
- Assist in selecting lighting fixtures, equipment, and materials to meet aesthetic and functional requirements.
- Produce 3D renderings and visualizations of lighting designs using tools like Dialux, AGi32, or other lighting simulation software.
- Research new lighting technologies, trends.
- Assist with calculations for illuminance levels, energy consumption, and compliance with local regulations or standards.
- Prepare presentations and reports for internal teams and client reviews.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, interior designers, to ensure seamless integration of lighting solutions.
Education/Qualifications
- Tertiary related qualification Bachelor’s degree in Lighting Design Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field.
- Related memberships or affiliations to Professional Organisations preferable
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- 0–2 years of experience in lighting design or a related field.
- Proficiency in lighting design software such as Dialux, AGi32, or Relux.
- Producing sketches, renderings, etc. to illustrate conceptual ideas
- Proficiency in Photoshop for producing visual renderings.
- Knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.)
- Familiarity with 3D modeling and rendering tools like SketchUp, Rhino, or 3ds Max is a plus.
- Strong understanding of lighting principles, color theory, and photometry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Passion for creativity and innovation in lighting design.
- Ability to work under pressure and move quickly to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Written and Verbal Language Skill
- English: Good communication of written and spoken English and computer skills
- Thai: Fluent written and spoken Thai
- Other languages an advantage
Exposure (Other indirect experiences that would be beneficial to the role)
- A demonstration of a ‘passion for design’ and a sincere interest in Hospitality Lighting design would be considered a major advantage
